I’ve found catharsis through movies lately and thought it could be fun to track the most resonate watches and compile some thoughts and feelings here on my site. These entries are not really intended as formal “reviews”, I just Write Like That. Over time, entries may be updated or expanded with new thoughts. This is an upcoming project I've had my eye on for a pretty long time, since at least 2020ish when it was still called Hell Puppy. The creators have described this as Scooby Doo meets Resident Evil, so basically imagine that but in a 2000s setting and instead of the mystery gang it's a broke emo band and that's the premise and bro I've gone through so many obsessions with this thing over the years. I just love the goofy scooby-doo-scary aesthetics mixed with actual demon shit — and the self-indulgent 2000s inspired stylistic aspects are a lot of fun too. The pilot has been in production for some time but is projected to release this year (2026) and it's the first thing I ever backed on Kickstarter. In the meantime, there's plenty of comics on the site, as well as original songs and some animated shorts / teasers to check out on the official Youtube channel. This project will always have a special place in my heart because it's how I became comfortable with my gender identity, thanks to Quinn. Even if as a certified gatekeeper i'm a little offended that he's described as a goth sometimes. No bitch you're just pale.

This is another upcoming project and a super new discovery for me—I only learned about it on its second to last Kickstarter day around May '26. This one has a Night in the Woods vibe, with animal characters in a small town setting and a mystery that centers a missing persons case, but with the story told through the documentary that the characters are filming about that missing person. This premise already sounded cool, but when I watched the trailer and saw those Vita Carnis -esque horror aesthetics I said no fucking way brah I'm in. I'm a big fan of the art direction in general and I'm really curious to see how they intend to pull off a horror series in a primarily animatic format. Has a really cool atmosphere and it reminds me a little of one of my oc / project concepts so it gets bonus points for getting me re-invested in my characters for the first time in a couple years.

No Evil

Unlike the other two projects, this one is an ongoing series and it debuted all the way back in 2012. No Evil retells classic fables and myths while tying them all into one overarching narrative. It incorporates beautiful folk singing into a good handful of episodes as well. As far as I can tell this series is made (primarily) by just one person and some voice actors, which is pretty much what it feels like. Episode lengths are crazy inconsistent, uploads are sporadic, and the animation manages to be beautiful without being uber clean or ridding itself of all its jank. I love the naturalistic voice acting, too. The characters are all so charming and they've gotten some giggles outta me. The series makes me feel so at peace when I watch it and once the story picks up it becomes surprisingly engrossing. I think it's one of the most inspiring animation projects out there and extremely underrated, despite a couple episodes surpassing a million views, although I'd never wish the curse of fandom upon anyone so, trade-offs I guess.

Cosmic Princess Kaguya! (2026)

 Watched with my partner :] I thought it was fine and an interesting attempt to modernize the Kaguya story, but oh my gosh it was hard to believe it was only 2 hours long. We don’t usually care for time travel plots either but it felt forgivable here. Most likely that was because the love between the leads made for a very strong emotional core. There were also some pretty cool visuals when the aliens returned to take Kaguya back to the moon.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

 Another family movie night film. An easier watch than The Green Mile that’s for sure, and I probably connected with its messaging a little more in terms of how it portrays the uselessness of the US prison system. Very absorbing, also the scene at the end with the big tree made me feel super nostalgic.

 Watched with my family and it made me veeery emotional haha, I feel like I can’t even form an opinion on it because of how emotional it made me. Pretty disturbing and depressing and I was not in the right headspace for it. Also I'm repulsed by bodily fluid which happen to be a motif this movie fixates on so if you've seen it you can imagine my torment. Sorry if that makes me anti-art or something. It's a good film, but not rewatchable for me.
Starship Troopers (1997)

 This movie traumatized me as a kid so I’ve been pretty excited to see it again. Unfortunately I'm still a wimp and I have a hard time sitting through military war movies so even though this one is obviously a satire and plays things pretty goofy, it ended up being kind of a shrug for me. It might be my favorite military war movie by technicality...
The Outsiders (1983)

 Another I had to watch for a class. I really can’t stand anything in this boy’s coming of age realism genre so, I tried to give it a shot but this movie was never going to click with me. Everything about it pisses me off the more I think about it so I will just leave it at that.
Felidae (1994)

 I knew this movie had cat sex but somehow did not anticipate it having so much cat gore and that ended up making it really hard for me to watch (I am a wimp). Artistically speaking, a lot of the surrealistic and brutal imagery is interesting, it’s just very gruesome and not for me.
The Amazing Digital Circus (2023-26)

 I followed this series because I like Gooseworx’s previous stuff and wanted to like this too. I never got super hooked on this one unfortunately but there is good stuff in here. I mostly wish that the dialogue felt more natural.
Cinderella (2015)

 Watched for a summer class, it’s a pretty good retelling. Loved the costuming too. I would never have sought this out on my own but I would not mind seeing it again.
The Exterminating Angel (1967)

 I watched this for a class and then I made my family watch it because of the Twilight Zone vibes. Probably my favorite Bunuel I’ve seen. Having watched it 2 different ways, the atmosphere definitely works best if you watch it alone and in the dark.
